PORTRAIT OF THE FACULTY MEMBER
At Heritage Classical Academy our teachers exude a joyful love for Jesus, demonstrate a robust love for learning, and affirm a calling to teach and train children. The formative work of the teacher is a slow and steady work of cultivation for the glory of Jesus. We collectively strive to embody the following portrait of an HCA teacher:
Joyful Teacher
The joyful teacher exudes joy in Jesus, modeling a cheerful love of learning.
Wise Teacher
The wise teacher speaks and acts virtuously, reflecting the truth, beauty, and goodness of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Old and New Testament Scriptures.
Charitable Teacher
The charitable teacher responds graciously, seeks the unity of the school, avoids gossip and complaining, and assumes the best of coworkers, students, and parents.
Humble Teacher
The humble teacher submits to the authority of the school as laid out in the handbooks and from the administrators. In doing so, she seeks to honor God and promote the mission of the school.
Knowledgeable Teacher
The knowledgeable teacher is a life-long learner and reader who cultivates a classroom of wonder.
Professional Teacher
The professional teacher is a master of the content of his courses and is thoroughly prepared, thus creating a stable and predictable learning environment. He also seeks to grow in the knowledge and the pedagogy of classical Christian education.
Discipling Teacher
The discipling teacher understands that each student in the classroom is an image bearer of God and is being formed not only by the curriculum but by the teacher’s words, actions, and affections. This is an overflow of the teacher's own discipleship, both individually and in a local church body.
Disciplining Teacher
The disciplining teacher establishes clear classroom rules and upholds them swiftly, consistently, and graciously. He seizes the opportunity to help students see their sin and need for forgiveness in Jesus.
Communicating Teacher
The communicating teacher corresponds regularly and clearly with both students and parents, creating a culture of trust.
Praying Teacher
The praying teacher prays daily for God’s grace on the lives of students, forming a heart of love in the teacher and a classroom of grace.
